Fifth Graders Start STARBASE Program

August 6, 2014 by Principal

The fifth grade class will participate in the STARBASE program at Los Alamitos Military Base. The program begins Monday, August 11th and continues through September 15th. No class on September 1st.

STARBASE, which stands for Science and Technology Academics Reinforcing Basic Aviation and Space Exploration, teaches the importance of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) to fifth grade Title I schoolchildren through innovative inquiry-based lessons. The goal of STARBASE is to excite and inspire students to further explore STEM subjects.

Every Monday for five weeks, our students will participate in this hands-on experiential program. They will study Newton’s Laws, design rovers on computers, and launch rockets. Teamwork is emphasized as children work together to explore, explain, and evaluate concepts.
