Mrs. Anabel Rodriguez
Welcome to St. Michael’s School! As a parent and an educator, I know the importance of finding the right school for your child. Both of my daughters attended St. Michael’s and they loved it here. My youngest just graduated in the Class of 2020. As Principal, I’m continually striving to provide new opportunities for our students. While our institution is over 115-years-old, we embrace the new and combine it with our rich history and traditions to provide an excellent 21st century Catholic education.
St. Michael’s has provided a quality Catholic education rooted in the Dominican tradition since 1903. We maintain close ties with the Dominican Sisters of Mission San Jose. Their foundation, Vision of Hope, is an important funder of our tuition assistance program, which helps us to reduce tuition for families experiencing financial hardships.
At St. Michael’s we nurture a child’s love of learning and their Catholic faith in a safe and supportive environment. We believe in developing the whole child—mind, body and spirit. Our dedicated teachers build a solid academic foundation and instill Catholic values that pave the way to a successful and meaningful life.
Our school is departmentalized from second through eighth grade. This means that students rotate during their day to different classrooms where teachers specialize in one or two core subjects. This allows teachers to teach the subjects they are passionate about and helps them get to know each child’s strengths and challenges and how to best help him/her. Plus, teachers can dive deeper into content.
In addition to the core subjects of English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies, as a Catholic school, we also teach Religion and students attend Mass weekly. As a proponent of a holistic education, we provide: weekly music class through our partner Education Through Music-Los Angeles, physical education twice a week using the Fit Kids program, and art instruction through Art Trek. Art therapy is offered through LMU and counseling services are offered through CPLA.
St. Michael’s is committed to preparing students with the skills necessary to be successful in the 21st century. We believe that a Blended STEAM education rooted in our Catholic beliefs will help develop ethical and responsible leaders who are effective communicators, collaborators and problem solvers. Integrating technology into teaching allows for differentiation of learning at a child’s own pace. Students use in-class Chromebooks and iPads, as well as several online educational programs that help students to master content.
In order to develop a child’s gifts and talents, we offer a variety of free afterschool classes and programs throughout the year including sports, tutoring, choir, academic decathlon, yoga, Spanish, guitar, art and more. Students can also develop their leadership skills through community service, student council, student ambassadors, lectoring, and more.
To help parents guide and assist their child’s educational development, we also offer parent education programs through our partnerships with the Catholic Schools Collaborative, Maestro en Casa, Power My Learning and PIQE.
If you are searching for an excellent yet affordable education for your child, please call or email us to schedule a visit. We’d love to show you our school and introduce you to our amazing students and teachers. I think you’ll be impressed by our campus, curriculum, students and teachers. If you have already enrolled your child, thank you for choosing St. Michael’s. I am grateful for your commitment to your child’s education and the sacrifices you are making to send your child here. We look forward to helping your child learn and grow as a student, a leader and a person.
Anabel Rodriguez, Principal
P.S. – We don’t yet know what the 2020-2021 academic year will look like due to the Coronavirus pandemic, but whether students are learning at school or from home, we are committed to providing the best education possible. Due to our Blended Learning environment, most of our teachers have several years of experience teaching with technology and using online educational programs to help differentiate and support student achievement. As soon as there is a decision from the Archdiocese regarding reopening of schools or continuing distance learning, I will let our families know. Thank you for your patience during this unusual time.
